Motor and Power
The 20360 is powered by 36 Volt lead acid battery power set-up. I found one site that listed the motor at 12 amps and another site that listed it at 6 amps, so I’m not exactly sure which it is. The battery is not removable but it is covered in the warranty for two years. I found one reviewer that rated the mower at 432 Watt hours. Be sure and read my article about watt hours, amps, etc.. I also found other ways that people rate the mower. One was for a 60 minute run time another place rated it for a 7000 to 10,000 sq ft run time. When looking at the watt hours this mower does have more power available than most. In order to make this battery last longer always recharge after use and keep the blade sharp. That goes with any cordless tool.
Toro designed this mower with safety in mind. This mower has a safety key and a start lever. Both must be used to get the mower to work. The way they set it up it is both safe and easy to use.
The safety key makes this mower less likely to be used accidentally, especially if you don’t keep the key with the mower, which is recommended. The safety lever on the handle makes it so that you cannot reach under the mower while holding the handle this is another safety feature. As with all mowers the best safety feature is reading the instructions and following them. – (Return to Top)
This mower is not self-propelled and even though the sales copy states that it is lighter than most other cordless mowers I found that not to be the case. It actually is about the middle of the range for a cordless mower but you are getting a 20 inch deck so that is where it would be lighter compared to other 20 inch mowers. If you are small or have a lot of hills or slopes on your property you might want to look elsewhere. On the Home Depot site they list this for a flat property with obstacles.
Deck Size and Material
The deep dome deck on the e-Cycler has a cutting path of 20 inches and is designed for superior mulching. The deck is made of metal and some complained about grass sticking to it. That is easily remedied with either a non-stick lawnmower spray or using a cooking spray so that the grass doesn’t stick.
Toro 20360 e-Cycler Handle
The handle on the Toro 20360 is not particularly ergonomic. It is basically a horizontal bar with good cushioning. The cushioning is quite good and with the smooth motor you should have no issues with vibration or fatigue. – (Return to Top)
Mulch – Bag – Discharge
This lawn mower comes standard with mulching capabilities and a grass catching bag. The bag was not mentioned on the Amazon site but nobody complained about it not being there so my assumption is that it does come with the mower. In the manual they do mention an optional side discharge chute one time but no one doing a review ever mentioned getting the side discharge option so I can’t report on it at all. Some did say that the bag is not very large.
The e-Cycler is rated for a 1/4 acre sized lot. It is also rated for a flat lot with obstacles. On another site I saw that it was capable of mowing a 10,000 sq ft yard with just one charge. One reviewer said he mows his complete backyard which was 14,000 sq ft on a single charge. He did note that it was weaker after 10,000 sq ft but still completed the job. As far as electric cordless mowers go this one does have sufficient battery power to do a decent sized yard.
Wheel Size – Height Adjustment
The wheels are 7 inches with a 2 inch wide track on the front of the mower and 8 inches with a 2 inch wide track on the back. They are adjustable for a cutting height of between 1 and 4 inches. This mower does not come with a single lever adjustment. Each wheel needs to be adjusted individually. Most people did not find this to be a hassle because they don’t change the height of their mower once they get it set for their yard. There were a few people that would have liked the single lever adjustment because of their varying grass types in their yard. – (Return to Top)
Folds for Storage
The handle folds but it is not recommended to store in a vertical position. Some of the Black & Decker models, like the Black and Decker CM1936, allow you to store the mower in a vertical position which makes it will take up much less space in the garage.
With this mower, like any other mower, I would recommend that you have a eye protection, sturdy shoes, a hat if it’s hot and possibly ear protection. The reason I say “possibly” is because many people do report that this electric mower is quite a bit quieter, both than and gas mower and most of the electric mowers. One item I would recommend with this mower beyond the standard safety ones is getting some sort of non-stick mower spray or using a cooking spray underneath to make it so the grass does not stick. That problem was mentioned more than once.
Dimensions and Weight
When the unit is put together the dimensions are 21.5 in. W x 56.7 in. D x 39 in. H. When the 20360 ships it weighs 90 lbs. The mowing weight is 77 lbs which is the weight that matters. They say it is lighter than most other cordless electric mowers but I didn’t find that to be the case. Its middle of the road on weight. – (Return to Top)
What Comes in the Box
What comes in the box is the mower, the mulch plug for mulching mode, the rear bag, the charger and a manual. I found that the listing at Amazon was missing some of these parts but my research showed that everything I just listed does come with the mower. As stated above there is an optional side discharge chute but that does not come with it.
This mower, like many battery-powered mowers, can only be shipped within the United States. It will be shipped separately from any other items that you may happen to order at this time but you won’t be charged any additional shipping. Other than that I found no shipping restrictions.
The Toro 20360 e-Cycler Cordless Mower comes with a two-year warranty that offers complete warranty coverage for the mower and the battery. What I noticed about the warranty is some people that had to resort to using it and customer service had no trouble at all and a couple reviewers did have issues with customer service. – (Return to Top)
Toro 20360 e-Cycler Price
I found the price on the Toro e-Cycler 203620 was best at Amazon by $20 when I wrote this review. Now, K-Mart did have it for $2 less but they have a shipping charge of $26 so Amazon won’t match the price because they are, technically speaking, still the lowest when you consider shipping. I suspect that Amazon will continue to have the best price or at least match anyone else’s because I alert them when there is a lower price. See the box to the right for current pricing. Pros and Cons
Pros: The regular positive attributes of an electric mower, no gas, no oil, no fumes and no pull-cord, are, of course, mentioned in many of the reviews, even the negative ones. One of the other most often mentioned positives about the model was that this electric mower is quiet. By quiet I mean even quieter than most other electric mowers, not just gas mowers. Another often mentioned pro-with this mower is that the battery longevity is pretty good. If you look at watt hours which is kind of like how full your gas tank is this one rates at 432 Watt hours which is a pretty high rating. As stated one reviewer was even able to do a 14,000 sq ft backyard which is 4,000 sq ft bigger than the mower is rated for. It’s not recommended to run the mower completely out of power. Let me just add my own pro in here. They did a good job designing this mower. It looks like a mower, not a transformer or some other weird modern toy.
Cons: Okay those were the pros but this is what I found isn’t so good with the 20360. More than a few of the negative comments were regarding the quality of cut. Another big negative on this mower is the fact that it does not bag grass clippings very well. If you really like to bag your grass clippings and plan on doing so often I would not recommend this mower. That problem is just mentioned too often to ignore. It’s also mentioned more than a couple of times that because of the length of the handle and the weight of the mower this mower is not that easy to push. If you didn’t already do so, watch the video posted up above and you will see that the woman when going either flat or slightly uphill is kind of struggling a little bit. Near the end of the video she is heading slightly downhill so it doesn’t look as bad. A few people mentioned that the wheels do not adjust with a single lever and they listed this as a negative. I don’t find this to be a negative because if you are like most people you do not change the height of your mower that often. Even though many people reported good battery life with this mower some people found it did not hold a charge well for them. This mower like many electric cordless mowers is not as strong as a gas mower. That is generally a given with electric mowers though. – (Return to Top)
Toro 20360 e-Cycler Reviews & Consumer Ratings
The reviews on this model are generally good although some people did have trouble. The consumer rating that I have on this site is not the same as Amazon’s rating because it is not just Amazon. I found 81 reviews on the Internet and Amazon only had 25 of those. Amazon’s rating at the time of this review was 3.2 the overall consumer rating comes out to a 3.8. One of the other sites with a good number of reviews came out at a 4.1 and another came out at 4.2. For each site I take the average ratings multiplied by the number of reviews and add all those results together and then divide by the number of reviews. For some reason with this mower more of the Amazon reviewers had a negative experience.
“…I think I read just over half of all of the reviews mentioned above, close to 50. The people that did have a negative experience were quite frustrated and some of them did not have good treatment from customer service at Toro. But the large majority of reviewers were very happy with their purchase and there were quite a few five-star reviews. One of the reviews found was not even about this mower it was just a very disgruntled Toro customer who had a different mower and was irritated with customer service so they made a point of putting a negative review everywhere they could find to attack the Toro brand. As with any item a few of the people obviously got lemons….”
Consumer Rating: 3.8
A few reviewers had a bad experience with customer service although others were very happy with the customer service they received. Taking everything into account I will have to bump this up but only a little bit. I actually liked the way this was put together and would hope that in the future Toro will make the motor stronger. So, I am going to give this mower a 3.9 rating. I really wanted to give it a higher rating but just couldn’t do it with the flavor of the negative reviews. Its still a good mower and if the instructions are followed should give a purchaser a nice mowing experience. – (Return to Top)
