The Greenworks model 25012 is a great medium-sized mower that comes with a strong 12 amp motor. Unlike many of the small to medium-size mowers this one actually has a metal cutting deck.

Motor and Power
The motor in the 25012 is a vigorous 12 amp motor. The fact that this is only a medium-size lawnmower and has this size motor makes it so that it can cut through heavier grass easier than a model with a 20 inch deck and the same size motor. This mower also has a cord retaining set-up so that you do not pull on the actual connection of the extension cord. A good tip for using a corded lawnmower is that it may be helpful to take the cord after you connect it to the retainer and put it over your shoulder. This keeps the cord behind you at all times and makes it less likely to run over it.
Start Mechanism and Safety Features
All the Greenworks lawnmowers have a similar start mechanism. First you need the push a button and and then the while holding the button you pull a bail lever to the handlebar. This makes it so that you cannot accidentally bump into the bail and start the mower. It is also its main safety feature. Other safety features would be the guard at the back to keep stones from flying out toward you and a properly mounted mulch plug or discharge chute.
Deck Size and Material
The deck on the Greenworks 25012 is made out of steel and is very durable. It does add some weight but that also adds more to its durability. The cutting width is a medium-sized 18 inches. For a really large lot this might not be enough but for the average yard or even the slightly large yard it should be fine, especially with the strong motor.
Greenworks 25012 Handle
The handle is ergonomically designed and adjustable. It also has a decent amount of cushioning and easy access to the start controls. The handles are folded easily with the cam lock feature. This makes folding the handles easy to do and less time-consuming than spinning a wingnut dozens of times. Needless to say this model will fold for storage easily.
Mulch – Bag – Discharge
This mower, as stated earlier, only allows for mulching or side discharge. It does not come with the bag and it does not even have it as an option. Therefore if you were truly wanting to bag your clippings, whether for mulching or for composting, this mower will not work for you. If all you want to do is get the yard mowed its great.
This mower should be perfect for any average sized yard. By average size I mean 1/4 to 1/3 of an acre. Some people have stated that they see no reason why they couldn’t do a one half acre lot without any trouble. This of course will depend on whether or not you have the outlets available and the proper extension cord. Remember it only has an 18 inch deck so the larger you go the more tedious it will feel because of the slightly smaller mowing path. – (Return to Top)
Wheel Size – Height Adjustment
The wheels are all 7 inches in diameter. Because this mower weighs about 50 pounds it’s not necessary to have large wheels on the back. I did read somewhere that it is not always the best thing to have large wheels because they can throw off the center of gravity because they need to be mounted further back. With this mower that isn’t an issue at all. This is not a self-propelled model but that should not be a problem unless you have a very steep yard.
The height adjustment is very simple and well built. Some other brands and models have had trouble with their adjustment mechanism if most parts are made of plastic. This one seems to be well built and sturdy. It is a single lever to adjust all four wheels at one time. It also has 7 positions and you can adjust the height of the mower to from 1 3/4 to 3 3/4 inches high.
As far as recommended accessories the main one to consider with this mower is the proper extension cord. Be sure and read my post about “Buying the right Extension Cord”. Also be sure and check out the PDF that is linked at the top of this page. The PDF was put together by an engineer and gives you the formula for figuring out exactly what size extension cord you need. The article explains how to use the PDF and more.
As I do in all the other reviews I recommend that you have gloves and eye protection at a minimum. Because the electric lawnmower is quieter than a gas mower it will be up to you whether you use ear protection or not. Of course I would recommend that you do. I will have some reviews about various accessories being posted soon. – (Return to Top)
Dimensions and Weight
The weight of the mower when you’re using it is 46 pounds. The shipping weight is 55 pounds. The deck, of course, is a bit over 18 inches wide but I couldn’t find the exact dimensions for the fully assembled mower. Of course those dimensions would change depending upon how you adjust the handle. That could make the height either higher or lower and the front to back measurement would be a bit different. This is not a super light-weight lawnmower but it is also not very heavy. There are other mowers that are much lighter but they are usually made mostly out of plastic.
What Comes in the Box
What do you get when you buy this mower? You get the mower, the side discharge chute and the owner’s manual. Not much more to it really. – (Return to Top)
Since this item is a little bit heavier it has the basic shipping restriction that this item must ship separately from other items in your order. There won’t be any additional charges if you have more than one item but they can’t be shipped together. This item can also be shipped to select other countries besides just the US. You’ll have to check with Amazon if you are out of the country.
This is where Greenworks seems to shine compared to most other companies. They offer a four-year owner’s warranty. There are some restrictions as there are with any warranty but for workmanship and materials a four year warranty is twice as long as any other company provides. Greenworks 25012 Price
For the size of mower this is priced reasonably. By size I mean the power of the motor and the width of the deck. Actually, compared to some other mowers this is very reasonable. It was more when I did the best cordless mower article. See the widget to the right or click on the button for further information.

Pros and Cons
Pros:The pros for this mower are like they are for many corded electric mowers. First off you have the fact that there were no emissions. You also do not have to mess with gasoline, oil, sparkplugs, tuneups, storing gasoline or any of the other gas related issues. The power of this motor is another pro many reviewers mentioned. And of course the all-time favorite is the fact that it starts every time without pulling on a cord. I would also have to add the fact that it has a metal deck and according to the reviews has a solid feel to it. People really like the single lever adjustment and how easy this mower is to use. Oh, and some people like the green color, seriously, they put that in their reviews.
Cons:There weren’t many cons listed. I read every review there was since there aren’t that many for this mower yet. When I did my article about the best corded lawnmowers for 2012 this was ranking at 4.9. It still is. I guess if you must find some cons with this mower it would be the fact that you can not bag the grass clippings. If they had made this a 3 in 1 mower instead of a 2 in 1 it would have had a higher rating.
25012 Reviews & Consumer Ratings
Since this mower had a 4.9 rating on Amazon it will get 4.9 star on my site also, at least for the consumer rating. Not really much I can do about it. I didn’t find any glaring error or problems that people were having. There was no such thing as a repeated issue that came up again and again. Therefore I will leave the rating the same as Amazon has. If you read my other reviews you will see that I don’t usually do that usually I will adjust the rating based upon what I find in the reviews and on other sites.
“…So, to summarize, people like this mower. You have to remember that there are not a lot of reviews compared to some of the other mowers but then again the company has not been around that long. At their current rate and with their warranty I would say that Black & Decker has a legitimate competitor in Greenworks. If you don’t mind going with the newer company then this mower should be a good one. If you must go with a comparable product but from a company with a long reputation then you might want to take a look at the Black & Decker MM275….”
Consumer Rating: 4.9
After reading all the reviews, there are 21 now, it sure seems like people really like this mower. I only found one reviewer that had any issue with one of the axles. Initially he was going to give it a pretty bad rating but he had a very good experience with customer service and still gave it a good rating. As stated just above if you want what came out to be rated as one of the best mowers according to my statistics this is a really good choice for a medium-sized corded electric lawnmower. Now as far as my rating on this mower you’ll see that I did bring it down one notch so it’s showing 4.8 stars. The reason I did that is exactly what I just mentioned and that is the company does not have a long history but because people like this mower so much I couldn’t take off more than 1/10 of a point. – (Return to Top)
